I've been pirated...prob not the first time, but...

...in my eyes, this way is worse, than just passing on the link. I just got an e-mail saying my cluster frames were pirated!!! While I don't like people passing around the links to the actual zip I uploaded, instead of the link to my blog, I really HATE it when someone downloads my things...takes my doxiedesigns name off of each file name, and uploads it somewhere for others. That sounds like they are trying to claim they made them, when they didn't, and that just burns me big time!!! The "publisher" name on 4-shared, was sabrinavc1981@hotmail.com just in case anyone wants to know. There were both sets of my cluster frames, and one other "cluster frame" probably made by someone else, not her/him. I wouldn't like it if they left everything in tact, and shared them, as its not that hard to send them to my blog to get them, but I don't get so ticked! I almost went and took all my links down, in the first moments after reading the e-mail, but figured this person already had everything of mine, so that wouldn't help, and would only make it so new commers can't get them. So for now, the links that were still active, are still up. However I may start thinking about just putting the links in my google group, instead of actually on my blog....if I find out this happens again! That way, at least if I find out who did it, I could ban them, so they couldn't again...hopefully. Well without another e-mail address anyway! I can have some "web pages" in the group, that only members can see, so that might work. If anyone has any opinions, or ideas, feel free to let me know!! If you know the "publisher" you might want to educate them on what "piracy" is, and why its not right! Especially the kind like this, where they take the name off of the file name.

Personally I don't have a HUGE problem with you sharing with family and close friends, (since my stuff is free, and ONLY as long as its free...if the freebie comes down, that right is gone to) if they have dial up or another reason they can't download themselves...after all getting things on a cd saves time, but when someone can download it themselves, I do get irritated that they don't come download it FROM me, and leave me a Thank You!! I also don't want my name taken off the files or my tou taken out of the folder, IF you do pass my things on to family on a cd! They are NOT to be sold, feel free to do FREE layouts for friends and family, but there is NO selling allowed with my designs!! Either in Kit form, or Layout form!!! Its a gift for all of you, who can't afford to buy things all the time, and who are willing to come leave me a comment on my blog. I know what its like to not have the money to buy kits!! I am in that bracket A LOT! Sometimes I can get enough money to get several kits a month, and others I can't get any. So I am on layout teams, to help out with my Kit addiction, (and help some of my favorite designers get their kits out in the public!) and when and if I can ever afford to, I will buy a kit here and there.

THANK YOU to the nice lady who told me I was pirated (won't share HER name, in case the one who pirated my things, reads this, and knows her)!!! Please let me know if anyone else sees someone else trying to pass my things off as their own!! Thanks so much for putting up with my bitch session!

I was going to post some layouts I did last week, from the new Digital Freebies club kit, but its not posted in the store yet, so I can't. And unless I get less disgusted, I prob won't today, even if it gets posted later. So maybe tomorrow, I can get back to posting layouts. I guess I won't finish my part of the kit for J3 Designs challengs that I was working on either...sorry Jamie, and Lynn! Maybe this week sometime.

Oh, wow! I know this is a HUGE problem as I've seen it happen to many designers. It's awful. And what happened to you was worse than just hotlinking, it was downright stealing! I'm so sorry! I hope you won't let it curb your creativity. I love your work.

  3. oh so sorry this happened to you.. i would never think of doing that.. i just used ur frames in one of my latest pages and got great comments on it (and even one of them were from you(thank you for that!!).. if it wasn't for your creativity and sharing my scrapbooking would be rather boring.. i too can't purchase all the time and look forward to getting the little gifts from the internet from all you designers. it's because of your creativity and that of others that i get the WOW's on my pages.. hope this doesn't discourage your creativity.. i look fwd to checking your blog for the new stuff.. i appreciate them... deb

  4. Hi Doxie,
Sorry to hear that some jerk is to lazy or not creative enough to make their own designs and have to steal other people's hard work. I think putting the links in your google group is a good idea.

  5. So sorry to hear of your problem - so unfair. Please don't stop creating and sharing - maybe your idea of putting links in your group would help. Thanks for your recent comments on my blog, and also for the spring daffodil kit- just downloaded it.

Some people are not nice people you work hard to make kits and then give us some freebies. I for one really appreciate all that you do for us. Without people like you I may not have gotten into scrapping because I live of a miserable disability once a month check. But if I want something I will pinch pennies to buy it. Since I am a techie I could do like her because I know how but I could not sleep at night. I feel guilty driving and unavoidably hitting a bird. I remember one time working on a puter and I kept asking her if she got a power surge was told no many times. I ended up having to replace power supply, hard drive and video card, when she came to get it she told me she did get a surge but she went ahead and bad mouth me. Took me a long time before I touched a puter of someone I didn't know very well. Sorry didn't mean for this to be so long just wanted you to know been there, done that and it is not nice.

I am sorry this had to happen deb..you do what you have to do ..to deal with it..so many people have this happen and I do not understand why..people have to do this..when it is free anyway..sometimes I think stuff like this is done just to hurt people...and that is aweful..and seems to happen all to frequently..take care..

  10. I just took the time to read your whole posting about this now. I so feel with you! The same happened to me - but not the more terrible part that my name was put down. I would have gone insane also! I simply can´t understand why people can´t play by the rules... But however: know the most people are honest and appreciate your generosity and respect your hard work :) I sure do!
Thank you very much for letting me in your group! I downloaded your Mother pansies now and can´t wait to get it unzipped. Thank you very much once again :)
    Have a wonderful mother´s day!
    Hugs,
    Conny

  12. This is terrible that it happened. Sounds like this was really deliberate...you don't drop someone's name from the item and remove a TOU by accident. Too bad, since you've been so generous to provide a freebie, you've put in your time, your design and talent. I wonder, do these same people steal things from their local craft store too?

I reported a similar instance to someone who is now a good friend, about a template of hers that was ripped off (the new person added a ribbon and a flower and called it her own). You could easily see the underlying template was identical...not copied or scraplifted, but identical. Too bad there are some bad apples out there who try to spoil it for everyone else.

I'll drop by your group to check things out...just found your blog through Ikea Goddess and signed up on the weekend! :-)

  13. I'm sorry that happened. Just another way of "plagiarizing". At least you know that someone else (among all the people here than love your work) is such a fan that they wish they could make it themselves.

  14. I am So SORRY!!! There always has to be a bad apple in the barrel. I always provide the name and a link back to where I get all my goodies. You guys that design deserve all the kudos you can get.
