Our Hillbilly Home - Gods Special Surprise!

Our House...before it was moved too our farm

This is a story about how we got started with our farm several years ago...I was chatting with a friend one day and talking about how we got our house, and she wanted to see some photos so I decided to write the story for my blog and share photos instead of trying to e-mail a bunch to her. If you missed the first part of this story, you can find the links to all the parts on my links page.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Late in October of 2003 we headed down to our farm, never knowing that it would be the weekend that God provided the last piece of the puzzle to allow us to live our dream life....living on our farm. God has perfect timing, and although we didn't know it yet, we would need a one story house by the time we had it moved and fixed up...because DH was starting to have more trouble with his knees...which needed to stop doing stairs and ladders.

We got to our farm that weekend, and bought a paper like we usually did (there is a weekly paper printed in the small town close to our farm). DH was looking at the paper when a (former) friend dropped by to chat. DH saw an ad for a free house to be moved in the classifieds, so we thought we would call and go see it that weekend, after the friend left. The friend however said to go ahead and call, so we did, then headed out to see it, since the owner was there.

Our House...before it was moved too our farm

It turned out the house was on a homestead a few miles east of our little town, and one we always admired as we drove by on our way to my parents house. I never realized there was a new house behind this one, because I was always admiring this house and the big barns they had on the property.

We took at look at the house, and took some photos inside and out and fell in love with it on the spot!

We told the guy we wanted it, but would have to see how much it cost to move it...and see if we could get a loan, then we would call him to say for sure we wanted it.

The next week, we talked to a house moving company to get an estimate on moving it to our farm, then went to the bank to try for a loan for the moving money and some extra to fix it up a little and get a foundation under it. We also went back to see it again, while we were waiting for word from our bank, and heard there were several other people who wanted it too, although no one had said YES yet, as they were trying for loans too. We prayed that we would be able to get it...if it was right for us, and as soon as we got word from the bank that the loan was approved we called to say YES we wanted it! LOL

Later we found out we didn't beat the next person who wanted it by much...but we did beat them so it was OURS!!!

Praise God for our wonderful surprise!!

Stay tuned for a few inside shots of the house...

...next time on "Our Hillbilly Home".

More will come once I get the photos gathered, and words written...please forgive the fact that I'm clearly NOT a "writer" AND the time it could take for the next part to show up...a day, a week, a month or... God forbid... a year.
Next installment is here.
