It's a hot one out there!

I think summer is here now...after a cool spring, these hot temps are not to fun (not that they ever are) especially since it's just a few days into June. We've been back and forth so much this spring, I don't know if the heat is here to stay, but I sure am not enjoying it now. It's suppose to get a little to close to the 100 degree mark today! *gasp*

To top it off, our central air isn't working. We figured this out several weeks ago (3-4) and called a repair man, but according to him EVERYONE'S having trouble with their air, cause it was three weeks before he found time to come see what was wrong with ours. Finally last week he did...and found out it needed a part, so we are still waiting.

We had to have DH's cousin (who installed the air...he lives several hours away and has his own summertime rush going on, or he would be here fixing it for us) order the part, cause parts are under warranty (unfortunately labor isn't), and the repair man said he couldn't "prove" that it was...so wanted us to have our cousin get the part. We just got the part today, so we will see how long it takes for it to get installed. I'm sure looking forward to it, cause I'm a wimp and can't handle the heat to well. (Exactly why we got central air in the first place, cause we've never had it before but with us starting to get older I wanted it now.)

On a side note, I always get the feeling when this repair man is here, that because I'm a woman, I don't know anything about the heat or air system. I have no problem with Men being in charge, and being the head of their household...I believe that's the way God wants it (I'm trying to be a Titus 2 woman as much as possible, although I think I have a long way to go before I truly am), however that doesn't mean that woman get no respect, or are totally stupid.

I may not be the smartest person on the planet, but I do happen to know how to turn on the heat and air, and turn it off...and if the air flow is as much as it usually is or not, and when something seems to be wrong. In fact I may know more about that end of it than my Man, cause I deal with it more than he does. I fully admit I don't know a lot about heating and air or a lot of other things...but sure do hate it when I get ignored just cause I'm a woman.

For this reason...I try to make sure DH is around when this repair man is, so HE can deal with him, and I can go about my day. I don't need the aggravation. To give him his due...he may not think that way at all, it may be totally in my imagination. I'm just not real comfortable for some reason around him, (not the normal "shy" uncomfortable either...I can deal with that) so thankfully DH has been able to be around when he is here.

Moving on...DH must have finally had enough of the heat himself...or enough of my complaining about the heat...cause he went up in the attic last night, and found one of our old window air conditioners from before we had the central air. It hadn't been ran for 5-6 years, but we installed it in the bedroom window, and turned it on and it started right away sucking the sticky humidity out of the room.

Before long I could tell the difference between one side of the bedroom door and the other just in the humidity level...it dropped from the high 80's to the high 70's by bedtime (in just 2-3 hours) and in the middle of the night DH had to turn it down some cause it was cold. When I got up at 6:30 I turned it down a little more cause it was still kinda cold in here (high 60's). Now it's sitting at 75 or 76, which is a little cooler than I usually keep it during the day with the central air, but I'll leave it at that for now, and see how it goes.

Needless to say we have to learn where it should be set, to keep it at a nice temp (not so cold that we freeze, but nice so we can sleep good) but it's sure nice to have it at least here in the bedroom, so we can sleep a little better.

I can even bring my laptop in here and cool off, while I get computer stuff done! *giggle* I had to tease my DH about that last night. I picked up my computer and mouse, and headed across the house from my office to the bedroom, singing loudly..."I have a laptop" *evil laugh*... so DH could be sure and hear me even if he had earphones on listening to something on his computer. He told the dogs to bite me. *snicker*

I'm thinking DH will be wanting a laptop the next time he gets a new computer, just in case he ever has a need to use it out of his office. Needless to say, I'm sold on laptops, cause I sure love being able to move around the house with it should the need arise. :-))

I'm much happier this week, than last week...least about having to endure the heat, cause at least now I have a room to go to, to cool off and can sleep a little better. We will see how happy I am, when the bill comes. *sigh*

Anyway, Praise God the window unit still works!! And thanks Darling Hubby for helping me get it installed, even though your back pays the price. You are so good to me, and yes Dad...I'm spoiled, and loving it!! :-))

  1. We've actually still been running the heater off and on. It's on right now, but we did have some nice weather this last weekend. We were able to turn the heater off and open the window. The fresh air blowing in was so refreshing!

I hope we get some higher temps this summer. Last summer was cooler than normal, and we ran our central air maybe 2 weeks, and those weren't 2 straight weeks. *sigh*

Here's to summer and temps over 70*! *lol* ... It's currently 59* and cloudy here...
