Swiftly Fly the years...

LPN Graduation

Years ago, when I was growing up, I remember watching Fiddler on the Roof. I fell in love with some of the songs from it, and still like them to this day even though the movie isn't my favorite, especially "Sunrise, Sunset". It came to mind last night, after I got a call from my Niece, who was so excited to tell me she was getting married...not till next year, but her boyfriend...or ummm fiance now I guess LOL...had just asked her Dad (my brother) for his blessing.

"Is this the little girl I carried,
Is this the little boy at play?

I don't remember growing older,
When did they?

When did she get to be a beauty,
When did he grow to be so tall?

Wasn't it yesterday when they were small?

Sunrise, Sunset, Sunrise, Sunset
Swiftly flow the days,
Seedlings turn overnight to Sunflowers,
Blossoming even as we gaze.

Sunrise, Sunset, Sunrise, Sunset,
Swiftly fly the years,
One season following another,
Laiden with happiness and tears..."

I may not be her parent, but I love dearly, and I'd just like to know where the years went?

How can she be planning her wedding already?

I didn't see her near enough as she grew up, with the miles between us and not enough time or money to go see her often enough, so I feel like she should still be a youngster, even though we've seen her through her high school graduation....and LPN graduation already.

It really should have sunk in, especially since this year will be our 20th anniversary and she was the flower girl in our wedding...but I guess I'm still having trouble believing we've been married almost 20 years, let alone that my beautiful niece is old enough to be getting married.

*sigh* Swiftly fly the years is so true.

Congratulations Kali, my prayers are with you as you take this next step in your life, together with your beloved. May you both grow in wisdom and love and have many happy years together, through good times and bad.

  1. Something I am so not ready for. Yet - I can feel it coming, anyway. I understand - completely. I don't know why, but my only next thought is that "Dig deep for something happy..." thought. And what comes is... "Maybe she'll have a dozen babies!"

    God help me.

    LOL

  2. I felt the same way when my niece, Justina, got married in July! She was the flower girl in our wedding too, and I could NOT believe she was old enough to get married. *sigh*

    Congrats to your niece!!!!
