Apple Sauce and Layouts

Well I managed to get a couple layouts done, with a couple of Shawns beautiful kits this evening even though I was busy all day making Apple Sauce for Apple butter. This was my first time for Apple sauce (and apple butter). I can't believe DH and I have been married 15 years (in Oct) and I haven't canned anything, or made anything like Apple Butter. Of course we also haven't lived on a farm with an apple tree before! LOL There was a pear tree in the yard of the farm we rented for the first three years we were married, but I never thought about seeing if I could make anything with them, they were great eating though!!

I cut up a bunch of apples today and cooked them (ok DH helped me cut them up or I would have been working on it well into the evening!) and then used the food mill we borrowed from our wonderful neighbor to the north. I then blended the apple sauce so it was smoother like Apple butter should be, and put it, with the sugar and spices in the crockpot. It will cook slowly all night, and in the morning I will add some more apple sauce and sugar and let it cook for a couple more hours. Then after it is cooked I get to can it, which will be my first time canning anything by myself. I used to help my Mom when I was growing up, but thats been so long ago, I don't remember much. I will only be doing a water bath, because I don't have a pressure canner, and I don't think you really need one for apple butter. (One day I hope to be able to get one though!!)


I must say I am so thankful for the internet, because thats where I found out how to make my applebutter. Course I added way more cinnamon than they said to, because we love it so much, so its got my personal touch to it too, but at least I found out how to do it, online! We will see if it turns out very good tomorrow I guess!! LOL Anyway it will be nice to wake up to that wonderful smell of the spices blending with the apples in the morning!!!
