Panic

I'm still in the process of learning about my new laptop. I'm used to a desktop for starters, so the little differences between a desktop and a laptop can really mess me up sometimes. Sometimes those "mess ups" can cause me to panic, thinking I've totally messed up my computer, and will have to start over on getting it set up, which is something I DON'T want to have to do.
I was trying to set up my printer so I could use it over the network, this morning, so it was easy to tell it to print something if I'm using my laptop somewhere besides my office. (and also, so I can use the ONE printer with TWO or more computers.) I'm in my office, with my laptop AND desktop on, because I have to make the desktop work that way too, and then I can set up my laptop. I was waiting for my desktop to restart, (which takes forever it seems) so looked down and absentmindedly tried to brush some dust off of my laptop just as my desktop shuts down to restart. My laptop seems to attract dust like no body's business, and it's a never ending job just keeping most of it off of it (and I've only had it a week...as you can see in the photo, I can't keep it all off! LOL)
Anyway, I was somewhat distracted, with paying attention to my desktop computer too, so will use that as an excuse as to why I didn't figure out what was going on for a little while, well that and the fact that I don't know my laptop well enough too. LOL I started having excel windows pop open on the laptop, and there were several of them. Then I noticed I couldn't get online, and thought I had messed something up on the desktop, since it's the one that I have the modem and router hooked up to. I finally figured out that the desktop could get online (once it got fully restarted), so I started looking at my laptop to try to figure out why it wouldn't.
I found out that the net button had been pushed...but ummm just WHERE the button was, I had no idea. I didn't even know there was such a thing. *giggle* I finally figured out, that the lights above the keyboard (in the photo above) weren't just lights, they are actually buttons, so when I slid my finger across them (absentmindedly getting the dust) strange things started happening on my computer, because I had pushed the buttons. Who knew? Ok, probably everyone but me...but hey, I'm new to this laptop business! *snicker* The book they sent with the computer didn't have a diagram with all the buttons marked on it, or anything like that, so I have to figure out all these things myself...through trial and error, and stupidity on my part.
Once I figured it out and the panic went away I laughed at myself and muttered *idiot* to myself and preceded to set up my printer...but OMGoodness I hate that feeling where you think you REALLY messed something up. LOL Now I get to shake my head (at myself) and chuckle at my stupidity through out the day. Although really, those "lights" don't LOOK like buttons to me, they just look like indicator lights. *sigh*
I wonder what else I have yet to figure out...and how many more times my computer will get the better of me? :) I do know I haven't figured out WHY Excel opens when I push the "buttons" up there, that's something I'd like to know, cause if I could change it to a different program I would change it to one I use all the time. So it looks like I need to do some research...someday. LOL Oh well, least I have a way to print things from this computer now...and something to keep me chuckling most of the day (remember, I'm easily entertained *giggle*).
Hopefully the rest of the weekend is uneventful...least when it comes to my computer. Have a great weekend...and DON'T touch those lights above your keyboard, on your laptop! *snicker*

I know the feeling. At least most of the time I can figure it out with a little searching. Ofcourse there are those times it seams impossible. As long as I have had mine, I'm still learning about it.

LOL Well good, glad it's not just me...and I didn't mean to imply that anyone else who fell into that trap was an idiot, I just felt like one at the time. :)
