Bovine Buddies

Bovine Buddies

We had to do our shopping today, since I'll be busy the next couple of days, with baking and all, so headed out for Lincoln early. Before we left, we had to run and put Chuck (the blind Angus) into a different pasture, because he was paying lots of attention to Mabel, who appeared to be going into heat. We didn't want him trying to breed her while we were gone, so across the fence he went...poor thing was NOT happy.

We came home to this picture of the two Jersey's laying down side by side, by the hay feeder. I thought it was to cute, almost like they were sisters. They seem to be getting along just fine, and who knows, maybe they are happy to have each other...Belle is still quite a bit smaller than they are, so having a mature buddy is probably better. Course IF Mabel IS in heat...maybe bringing home Daisy helped push her into it, because we sure haven't seen any sign of it before now. They have both been laying down like this, since we came home, so who knows if she is still acting like she is. If not, maybe this time next month she will be again. :)

We did contact the Man we got Daisy from, to tell him she was with calf, and also to ask if he could find out from the people he got her from, if she had a name...so who knows, maybe she won't be Daisy for much longer. He said he would talk to the Man on Saturday...so hopefully he doesn't forget to ask. If she has a name, and knows it, it would be better to use it so she knew to come when we called her like Mabel does, although I do like the name Daisy. LOL

Oh yeah, and doesn't Daisy look pretty in her new halter? Would be better if it were purple, but the only cow halters they had in town were black...maybe eventually I'll get her a purple one, since she is "my" cow. *giggle* She isn't real happy with it I don't think, DH put it on her last night, then had trouble getting her to go back into the stanchion this morning....since that is where he put it on her at. Oh well, she will have to learn to live with it, least for now...DH wants to get her used to it for a couple weeks, before maybe taking it off, unless it's needed. We will see if it comes off very soon or not, as it seems like it would be handy to have it on her for leading purposes...since she will actually lead, unlike Mabel.

Ok gotta run, just wanted to share this photo. It's such a beautiful day out, almost hot in the sun and the birds and frogs are singing!! The frogs were singing when we came home on Monday...it was a nice welcome. Have I mentioned (lately) how much I LOVE to listen to them...it sounds like "home in the spring" to me. :))
