More Memories

It seems that this is the time of year I look back, even more than any other time of the year. Between Thanksgiving and the end of Jan. because Thanksgiving was the last time I saw my Uncle Orison alive, and the End of Jan. is when he died. So I tend to think about him, and things we did, more now. This year its worse, with the fact that Grandma is failing. So here are more layouts with wonderful memories. The first two layouts in the book Display, are of one of the foster kids that my Grandparents had, and my brother and I helping to build the cabin in Minnesota. I will (try) to copy and paste the journaling below.

The second layout is of my Grandmother and Dad the night before Thanksgiving this year. She was opening some gifts.

I also used the Digital Album Display by Blushbutter for the two page layout.

Journaling on two part layout Reads:

"Minnesota was always an extra special place for me growing up. Even when we slept in tents or stayed in someone else's cabin, I loved it. The Summer of 1981 Grandma, Grandpa, and Orison decided it was time to build their own cabin, on their property on Battle Lake. So in July they packed up some supplies, and my brother and I and we went up to build the cabin.

I have to admit, some of the memories are getting kinda hazy, but there are two things I remember well. They had electricity put in on a poll until they could get the cabin built, and it seemed like every time my Uncle Orison, or anyone, would pick up the skill saw to cut a board, the breaker would shut off. So (usually it was Orison) whoever was trying to cut a board would yell "Breaker" and someone would have to run over to the pole and turn it back on. It got to where when we heard "breaker!" us kids (one of Grandma and Grandpa's foster kids were up there helping that summer too) would run and try to be the one who would turn it back on. I remember giggling a lot while I tried to beat the boys. Eventually Grandpa got a chair, and his book and sat by it, so Orison didn't have to wait as long for it to be turned back on, so we had to find other things to have fun with.

Another thing I remember about building the cabin is being on the roof. I really can't stand heights, and I don't really remember getting up there, but will probably always remember the trip down. I was fine while I was perched on the peak, straddling it. I would slide shingles down to who ever needed them, so all I had to do was scoot to the next pile, when one was gone. But getting down was so scary for me; I haven't gotten on a roof since. Orison helped me to crawl from the peak of the roof, down to the ladder and having to crawl across the shingles was not fun, cause I kept thinking I was going to slid off them, because they seemed to be slick. Then getting onto the ladder once I got to it, was not fun. I finally got my feet down on solid ground, and they couldn't get me up on the roof after that!"

The two pictures beside the journaling on the two part layout, is the cabin, in 1995, the last time I saw it, before it had to be sold, because Uncle Orison had died, and he was the one, who took care of it.
