New Puppy!
I just LOVE puppies, and growing up we had them alot, but we haven't had one around here for several years. We have been thinking we needed another LGD (livestock guard dog) for when we separate our goats, so we have been looking for another one for several weeks now...plus my brother wanted one so we were looking for him too. I was actually kinda wanting an older one, so he was trained already, but would take a puppy too, cause after all I LOVE puppies! LOL
We had tried to get ahold of the woman we got Yani from but hadn't heard back from her, however finally yesterday we got her on the phone and found out she had one female she was willing to give away. That's what my brother was wanting so we said we could come get her today. So even though we had been gone all day yesterday to see one of DH's Aunts, we drove down into northern Ks to pick up the dog this morning...it ended up taking up most of the day, cause we talked to her for a little while and then stopped in her town, and got some Vitamin E she told us about for the goats.
Anyway while we were there we saw she had puppies...that were actually the puppies of the dog we were taking. They were cute, but were taken she said...bummer! LOL I fell in love with one little boy that had black on his face, and cuddled him and enjoyed holding a puppy again, then when we were about ready to go told him to say bye to his mama and started to put him down, when the woman said "ahhh just take him" I stopped in surprise, looked at her and said "really?" (like an idiot) and she said yes that she had been waiting two weeks for the other guy to come get him and she knew we would take good care of him so to go ahead. OMGoodness, not needing to be talked into it I tightened my grip on him, straightened up and said thanks!! I KNEW DH would be ok with it, cause he wanted another one...and wanted a boy....and he KNOWS I loved this one already. LOL Who wouldn't!
He is just so adorable, and seems to be laid back, although I know that could just be because he doesn't know us to well. We took him out with the big goats and Yani when we first got home, to see what Yani would do with him and his Mom Minqua, but then put him in the little pasture with the kids. I thought it might be better at first at least, since he's small and new. I'm not for sure how old he is, but has to be around 8-10 weeks, and he is already learning what to do as a working dog. He went in when the kids went in, and came out when they came out this evening. It was kinda cute to see him keeping an eye on his "herd", even now as young as he is. I was a little surprised, I had just thought it would be good to have him with the goats, but not with the big ones quite yet...plus it would get the little ones used to dogs...and didn't think about him actually having the instincts already to "guard" them...not that he could kill a Mountain lion or anything yet, but still it was cute and nice to see since we haven't ever actually "trained" a LGD yet, so maybe we will get lucky and he will "train" himself. LOL
DH took the photo (above) and I thought it was cute how he was laying and the two goats were watching him.
Needless to say we have been busy again this week running around. It's not really going to get any better this month I don't think, cause we still have graduation to go to. So I'm guessing May isn't going to be a month where I get much in the way of scrapping done. LOL It was good to see DH's Aunt yesterday though. We got a few recipes from her...not near what I'd like to get cause she is a really good cook...but DH wanted some jelly recipes (strange ones...although I tried one of them and it was good). I'd love to go through her box of recipes and just start coping them down...but will be thankful for what I have. :)
Anyway, I better get this posted and get to bed, it's getting late. If you don't hear much from me in the next few days, you will know I'm probably spending some time playing with our newest addition!! *giggle* There are more photos of our new puppy and his mom on flicker. This last photo is Yani meeting the puppy. Just think, he will grow up to be her size too...or least he should be close. :)
That pup is sure a cute little guy. Looks like is is going to be a good quard dog.
