Success!!
I finally had success today with my whipped cream!! Course it was a little extra thick, although not nearly as thick as the first batch...but least it worked and let me make the blueberry cheesecake I had planned on making last week. Now this isn't that thick cheesecake that they serve in restaurants...(or I'm sure I could make, if I just had a recipe), this is the recipe my Mom always used, and the one my Dad always loved. Which is one reason I tried to make it last week, since he was here for a few days. Figures it had to give me trouble then! LOL Oh well, eat your heart out Dad, I'm sure we will enjoy it!! *giggle*
DH will enjoy it anyway, it will depend on if it bothers me or not, if I will eat much. I tend to have trouble with milk products sometimes, (the store bought kind anyway...and the cream cheese is store bought) but am hoping with it being fresh cream that it will be ok...except I don't know if cream cheese bothers me or not, and it does have some of that in it to of course...so I guess we will see if I have to avoid anything with cream cheese in it or not...unless I can figure out how to make fresh cream cheese, then...hmmmm! LOL
Oh and yes I know I really should iron the cloth...but I just wanted a quick photo so didn't. ROFL I'm NOT a food photographer!
Homemade Butter Notes:
I also made more butter today, and had more success there too!! Instead of it taking me almost an hour to churn it, it only took me 20 minutes!! This time after we put the milk through the separator I let it set in the fridge for two days, instead of only a day. I'm not sure if that did it, or the fact that most of the cream was thicker...and maybe a touch warmer, as it sat out at room temperature for a little longer. I guess next time I try to have it thinner...and just try the sitting in the fridge for two days...and see if maybe that's what made it work up faster. Maybe before long I'll have this making fresh homemade butter thing down so I can whip it out fast all the time. LOL
Who knew that I should have enjoyed science a little more when I was in school, just so I could be the housewife I always wanted to be and know just how long to leave the cream in the fridge before churning it...or how warm it should be, or how thick. *sigh*
Rambles:
Well not much else going on, it rained a lot of today, least off and on. I did look out this noon, and saw Mabel looking up towards the house while she was standing by the spot that DH usually throws corn stalks over the fence. She doesn't usually just stand there staring at the house like she is trying to will us to come out...so I thought it was kinda funny. I told DH and he said he hadn't gotten any out to them yet...but he did as soon as lunch was over so she would hopefully be happy. LOL
Yesterday we did get new tires on the car...why do they have to be so expensive? I was going to wait a month or two longer, but we couldn't cause a couple of them had belts slipping, and with winter coming I want as good of tires on as we can afford. Oh well, I had DH call and find out how much our property taxes would be, and figured out we would have a little extra there, so while it won't totally pay for the tires it does at least half, so it won't be so hard to find the rest.
I save money towards taxes every month, so I'm not stuck trying to come up with it all at the end of the year...and thankfully usually have a little extra to spend on whatever we need. Property Taxes in Nebraska are rather high...not compared to back east maybe, but compared to surrounding states they seem to be...especially Missouri which is the only other state we have actually owned property in...plus I know what my parents pay. Oh well not much I can do about it, and I'm just happy we get to live our dream on the farm! :)
Ok that's enough of my strange ramblings...hope your week is going well! If ya want some cheese cake, come on over, better hurry though, before I decide to send some up to our neighbors house!! :)
