A good day & goofy me.
Any day that starts out with a phone call from a neighbor, saying they have some free food (cow, goat & chicken food...as in fresh picked corn) has got to be a good day. LOL DH got a phone call around 7:30 this morning, telling him that there was a pile on the ground, if he wanted to come scoop it up...being the scrounger that he is...and married to the cheap skate that he is, he leaped at the chance! It pretty much filled the back of the pickup and our animals will love it! More on that story on his blog here...with a photo too. God has truly blessed us with some good neighbors, they help make up for the not so good ones...not that we have to many of those thankfully. LOL
I went outside today while he was unloading it, to enjoy the beautiful sunshine, and took some of it over to our animals, to give them a treat. The first stop was the cows, I wanted to see if I could entice them over to me, if I had a bucket of grain in my hand...since they still are unsure if they want to be around me. This is the first time I've tried to give them a treat...and DH instructed me on how to hold out my hand with grain in it, because you can't do like you do with goats, unless you want to loose some fingers.
I walked over to the fence and called Mabel, who just looked at me...big surprise there. Chuck (the blind calf) heard me...and probably the grain in the bucket...and came walking towards the fence. I held my hand under his nose when he reached me, but since it felt like he was going to miss the corn, and get my fingers I dropped it, and just held out the bucket for him...he got some that way. Then Mabel decides that she would have to come over, since she didn't want him to get it all, and I took a look at her big mouth and didn't bother holding my hand out (I know, I'm a chicken LOL). I just held out the bucket to her too...only she is bigger, and once she stuck her head in the bucket I couldn't hold it up...and it fell to the ground out of my reach.
I laughed and told DH (who was still unloading) that she stole my bucket, so he brought another one over and actually fed her out of his hand...which made me glad I didn't, cause it got all slobbery. *giggle* I don't think Belle got any corn, because she couldn't get up to us, without Mabel getting in the way...and she wasn't willing to get REAL close anyway...although she is getting better. DH was able to get the other bucket back...and I stole the one he brought over, and went over to the goats across the driveway and fed them, that's something I can manage without getting into to much trouble...they aren't so big and they don't eat fingers...usually. *snicker*
After feeding both groups of goats, I was standing petting the spoiled cat who was sitting in the pickup listening to the radio when she jumped on my shoulders. I moved and saw our reflection in the side window of the truck, so had to snap some photos of it...the first one turned out the best (see above), but the dirt on the window made bad reflections on the rest...although I did upload three others to flicker, cause the cat was playing with my lens cap that was swinging on a string hanging from my lens. DH always tells me I'm goofy...these photos should prove it, cause not to many people takes photos of themselves reflected in a dirty truck window. LOL What can I say...life is so much more fun when you have goofiness in it! *snicker*
Well I better go skim some cream off the milk, because I want to try making some cheese without putting it through the separator...it usually turns out better that way...cause there is more butterfat left in the milk...I just don't think it needs as much butterfat as it would have, without me skimming some of the cream off the top. LOL This way I can still have some for butter...yet get some cheese out of it too. Have a great rest of the day! :)

There is no way I would be brave enough to let a cow eat out of my hand! *lol* ... I don't think I would even be brave enough to hold out a bucket for them, as I would be too scared to get that close. *lol*

Yeah - them man-eating cows can be REALLY scary....That's why we put them in a headlock to milk them....
