Repair's, Cats & Pioneer Woman

My Handy Man

What's wrong with this photo? Could it be...the fact that someone who uses a stick to walk, shouldn't be on a roof? *giggle* I had to chuckle (to myself) when I saw he had his stick up on the roof too...I swear that thing goes everywhere with him. Granted it's nice to have it, and has saved him from falling several times...but on a roof? Hmmmm it just doesn't seem like it would be very helpful there. LOL

Early last month we came home from shopping and saw a bunch of wind damage on the shop roof, so fixing the roof went onto the long list of things that should be finished up before winter gets here. Today DH decided he would get started on it...but as you can see if we could afford to have someone else do it, we would...because no one who uses a stick to walk should be up on a roof! *giggle* As for me...I avoid ladders like the plague, and so that also means a roof is out. Just watching him move around on the roof made me unsteady, and I was on solid ground! Seriously, I actually felt like I was loosing my balance once, when I saw him moving around...I have a major problem I know. *giggle*

I am extremely thankful to be married to such a wonderful HANDY MAN!! Not sure how we would ever get anything fixed if he wasn't so "handy", since we sure couldn't afford to pay someone else to do it. The fact that he not only is handy but is able to scrounge things for free, to be used later, makes him just about perfect!! :)

Attack Cat

While I was out seeing how the roof was going the cats came to see me. I got several photo's that I put on flicker, but this photo even though it's not the best, cracked me up, so I thought I'd share it. The black cat wanted to play, and the other one didn't.

How many of you are Pioneer Woman fans? I've been a fan of all her blogs for a while now, and get all of them into my google reader. I love her main blog, and reading about her life on her DH's Ranch, seeing the beautiful photos she takes of their wild horses and reading about Charlie her beloved fur Baby. Her Photography blog is really interesting, course I love photography myself. Her home and garden site, and homeschooling site are also interesting...although I suck at gardening, and have no kids to home school...I still enjoy reading them.

But her cooking section has held my interest from day one, because I love finding recipe's that are tried and true, down to earth, Man pleasing dishes that fills him up and makes him want to marry you all over again. (that last is what Pioneer Woman has said...paraphrased of course. LOL) I need all the help I can get with my cooking...well it's not that I can't cook, but I'm one of those people who has to follow a recipe in order to make anything worth eating...and even then it can be chancy, if it's a new dish. LOL This is why I want recipe's that others have tried and loved...so maybe I have a chance at them actually being one we will like.

When I heard Pioneer Woman was making a cookbook, using some of the recipe's from her site, and a bunch that aren't on her site, I knew right away I HAD to have a copy! I LOVE cookbooks....I don't use a lot of the ones I have much, don't ask me why, but there are times I just love looking at them and now and then I will pick out something new to try. So a couple weeks ago, the day before her cookbook was suppose to be released, I preordered me a copy from Amazon...and couldn't wait for it to get here...I've been impatiently waiting ever since, and finally today I got it in the mail!! (I don't know why it took so long to get it, while I don't buy lots from Amazon, I have gotten some things and didn't think it took THIS long to receive it.)

Pioneer Woman's cookbook

I ripped open the box, pulled it out and took it to my nice comfy chair in the living room and sat and looked through it cover to cover, reading everything except for some of the recipe's. (although I did look at the recipe, just didn't read it word for word) This is the MOST INTERESTING cookbook I've ever read!! I LOVE it!! She shares some about her life, some of her beautiful photos and lots of yummy sounding recipes which I have got to try out, as soon as I can get all the ingredients for them. Her love for her family and way of life shows, although I knew about it from her blog and I just love how colorful the book is, and how interesting she makes it. Before most of the recipes she tells a little about them which I think is one reason I think it's the most interesting cookbook I've ever seen...I love to hear how they came about, or where she got them from.

Needless to say I'm now a happy camper, to have finally gotten my hands on a copy and am looking forward to making her fried chicken, brownies, twice baked potatoes and many other recipe's in her book, with just a few changes here and there so we can eat them (since we don't eat pork). I'm also hopeful she will start work on a 2nd cookbook! *giggle* Who knows maybe I'll get to be a "good" cook eventually, if I could find cook books as good as this, that makes me HAVE to try a recipe! LOL DH says I already am...but I think he just likes most everything when it comes to food, so doesn't really care what he eats. I do love him for that though...it's always nice to be appreciated, even if you aren't the best at something. :)

Ok, I'll stop rambling on. Hope everyone has a great weekend...I can't believe it's here already! LOL
