Another big snow

Drift by the Barn

Wow, we haven't had this much snow for years! I can remember having lots when I was growing up. I remember my brother and I having a room tunneled out of the snow like an igloo, and having fun out in the snow...but I guess I've gotten old or something, cause now I just stay in where it's warm whenever possible. *giggle*

We have to have gotten at least another 10 inches this week...if not more. I haven't seen an actual total yet, I guess the official total for a town 20 miles east of us is 14 inches...so maybe we did end up with as much as we had last time...it was just slower getting here than I thought it was suppose to be when I first heard about the storm.

Summer Home

The animals are all staying in where it's warm too, and I bet the goats are glad we moved them back over to the barn, since their "summer home" (shown above) isn't near as warm. I do wish the sun would come out again, because it makes for brighter, prettier photos...and I need all the help I can get when all there is is white snow, and brown trees to take photos of outside. LOL Course that's mostly because I haven't ventured out to far, to get something better but what can I say...I love my warm house. *snicker*

Late December Snowstorm

It's funny seeing some spots almost bare of snow, and then huge drifts in other spots where the wind deposited it. Our back patio being one of those "huge drift" places. LOL I took a photo of my DH standing beside the drift that is on our patio yesterday, he was out there getting snow away from the furnace vent...and air conditioner/heat pump in case it got warm enough to have the heat pump kick in. It was still snowing at that time, but I couldn't resist getting a photo of him standing by the drift. He is 6' 7" tall...so as you can tell, by how far up it comes on him, it's a "huge" drift. LOL

The wind was really blowing while the snow was coming down, and I had to laugh the next morning when I got up and saw this drift on the patio and how it was larger than the last time (although some of the snow from last time was still there, so that is probably why it's bigger than it was)...even though it can be a pain having it there. It certainly takes some getting use to, to look out the patio door and see it there...although it's really hard to show how big it really looks, in photos.

There are a few more photos on flicker, and who knows, if the sun comes out in the next day or two, maybe I'll get brave enough to go out and see if I can get any photos that are actually pretty. I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you though! LOL I think I prefer green in my landscape photos...or animals to make it more interesting. Maybe that's why I'm not happy with any of my snow photos...but I think it's mostly because I need to practice more on taking good ones...I just don't enjoy the snow like I do the green or animals, so don't try as hard...shame on me. LOL Right now the sky looks like the ground...so it's just not as pretty in photos as it would be with a blue sky...but that's probably just because I'm not getting the right shot.

Speaking of not getting a photo...before the snow came this last week, I looked out the kitchen window and saw a bunch of Robin's hopping around in a bare spot. One flew over close to the house and it would have been a great shot with it's pretty russet breast standing on the snow, but I didn't have my camera in hand, so couldn't try to get a shot of it through the window. I did go get it after it left, but none of them came back close enough to get a good shot of them. I was kinda surprised to see so many Robin's this time of the year in our back yard...but it was neat watching them.

Anyway hopefully you get an idea of how much snow we have...even if they aren't great photos. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Hopefully that's the end of the snow for this year for us...but who knows, there is still another week to go! Hope everyone has a good one and stay safe out there!

  1. So pretty! We never get that much snow here... We did get 6 inches last winter at one time, but so far we haven't had any this year.

    Love the photos!
