Baklava
Many years ago, a year or two after DH & I got married when we were still living in Kansas, my wonderful hubby came home the day of the Christmas party they had at work with a piece of Baklava for me to try. I guess one of his coworkers was Greek, so made some for the party...I'd never even heard of Baklava before but once I took that first small bite I was hooked for life! It's not something we have all that often, at first we had a hard time finding it, and even now that it's around in the store's more, we don't buy it much, because it just never tastes as good as that first piece I had. However over the years now and then it has come to mind that maybe I should try making it myself sometime.
That sometime finally came about today! I've been looking at Recipe's online for a while now, and comparing them and deciding how I wanted to go about making it, since the one thing I knew was in those first ones, wasn't listed in the ingredients of ANY of the recipe's I looked at. Finally this month I purchased the items I needed and today settled down to make my first batch of Baklava. It was suppose to cool, but we just couldn't let it get all the way cooled down before we tried it, and yummmmmm it was GOOD!!
DH says it is the BEST he has had, but then he is nice like that...I can't remember if it's better than that first piece or not, but it is good, and hard to resist. I think we may have to freeze some because it's one of those things (to me) that a little goes a long way, and I'd hate for it to dry out to much. Course we may give a few pieces to the neighbor too...so that will get rid of some of it so we will see if we freeze any or not. LOL I do know I will have to make some more some time...although it sure takes a while to make cause it's got a LOT of layers in it, but it will be nice to be able to make it myself, instead of buying some that just doesn't taste quite right. :)
The winter storm they warned us was coming is finally here. Yesterday we got rain, but it didn't turn to ice like they said it might...here anyway. Today we are finally getting some snow though, although I'm not to sure that we will get as much as they first thought. That's ok though, as we really didn't need ANOTHER 14 inches, 6 or 7 will be bad enough. LOL
I hope everyone has a safe weekend! I'm going to try to not make myself sick eating to much of this yummy Baklava! *giggle*
