Moving Day

Looking around

Moving is for the birds let me tell you. *snicker* Although I've done it several times in my life, and actually enjoyed it a lot of the time, I don't really care to do it again anytime soon (we have to much junk that we would hate to part with). However today was moving day for our boer goats, and also it was the day DH had the pigeon's flyway done enough to opened it up for them to enjoy. This first photo is one of them out in the flyway, standing on the spring that holds one of the doors shut.

Curiosity may kill the cat!

The cats were sure interested in the birds, now that they could see them out and about. Pest started climbing the wire trying to find a way in, she however better hope she doesn't get in there or she will find out what curiosity does to cats. More on the cats and their adventures today on DH's blog.

Watching

It was also time to get the boer goats back over to the barn, instead of the little shed they have been in in another pasture. The barn is warmer in the winter and it's easier to feed them hay there, instead of having to haul it across the yard to where the goats have been all summer. It was an adventure getting ALL of them into the barnyard, past the enticing driveway (they love to eat the grass along the drive for some reason) and then out of the cow pasture where they used to love to roam too.

All the while the milk goats were watching from the other side of the fence, where they are separated from the boer's, and Romper the boer who spent the summer with the milk goats since she kept getting out of the other pasture was standing in the barn yard watching the goats coming to join her. She was frantic when she got locked away from the milk goats, till she started seeing the others coming her way. Romper and a couple of the others started butting heads as soon as they got back together, I swear it's a goats way of saying Hi, and it's fun to watch. It usually always happens when one goat has been gone for a while, and gets back with it's friends.

Belle & Yani

What I was REALLY interested in seeing was how the dogs did with the cows, while they were passing through...or how the cows did with them. Mabel was to interested in the cornstalks, so she didn't do much with them, although she did kinda walk a little towards Showgirl (a goat), who then hightailed it out of the vicinity. I guess she thought that was WAY to big of an animal to stick around. *giggle*

Shadow checked out the cows, but was to interested in checking out the perimeter of the pasture, to do much with them. I saw Yani walking around the perimeter, and then stop when she saw Belle looking her over. She sat down, so belle would come closer to her, but then just after I took the above photo, she jumped up and walked to me and sat by my side, like she figured Belle had gotten close enough. I don't know if Yani was really nervous, or if it just kinda looked that way with the way she jumped up and came over to me, but when she jumped up, Belle jumped back and then turned and watched her as she sat by my side. It was kinda funny, and I have to say if I were Yani and a big animal (Belle is just a calf, but still is bigger and heaver than the goats) came towards me, I'd want to keep my distance too. It hurts enough when the goats butt her I'm sure, it would only be worse to have the cow do it. LOL

All in all it was an interesting day. I'll miss watching the goats out my office window and the kitchen window, but next summer they will be back there so I guess I'll live. I'm sure they will prefer the barn, when the snow comes. :)

Today was up in the 60's again, but tomorrow it's suppose to get cold again. I'm glad it was nice out (although breezy) so I could enjoy being out with the animals and seeing their reactions. I do love our animals, they entertain me quite well. Now I guess I'll have to make sure I have a coat on if I go out the next few days. :)

Well better get off here, hope everyone's week is going well so far! Take Care.

  1. Yes, I'm sure they will be happier in the barn, when the weather really gets cold. :D
