Fruit Leather

Fruit Leather

Yummy! I just started the last batch of apple/strawberry fruit leather this morning!! I usually just make apple cinnamon leather but with these strawberries I just had to try some with strawberries in them. Ohhhh it's so good, and I wish I had more berries now so I could make more! *giggle*

I took a jar of my homemade apple sauce that is pure apple, no added sweetener, and mixed it with the same amount or a little more of pureed strawberries and a little bit of sugar and then spread it out in my dehydrator and a few hours later I can peel it up and wrap it in plastic wrap for a snack at some later date.

I added a little sugar because when it's dried it tastes better to me a little sweeter, although the undried apple sauce is just fine without sugar added. While sugar isn't to good for you, I think it is better than corn syrup, so I still think my homemade fruit leather is better for us than the store bought junk. I sure do LOVE these strawberries we got...just wish we could get some more, now that I have discovered how wonderful the apple/strawberry fruit leather is!! LOL

The apple sauce mixed with the strawberries makes the strawberries go further, yet tastes for the most part like strawberries. Really, REALLY Yummy!

I do love my dehydrator! Course since the temp. control is stuck on one temp I should get a new one...and I hope to eventually, but for now this one works for some things, and I enjoy using it! I found it at an auction several years ago and got it cheap so I can't complain to much about the temp control being stuck. :)

Well better run, tomorrow I hope to have a post ready to share about a funny that happened when we went shopping. I totally embarrassed myself again...what else is new. LOL

Have a great weekend! :)

  1. Oh, my goodness!! THAT looks so good, I can almost taste it, myself!!!! And thanks for reminding me of the third thing I keep forgetting. Salad Spinner - Pressure Canner AND Dehydrator. I forgot!! You're right about sugar being better than Corn Syrup. But then - you have to be careful and make sure you get "Pure Cane" Sugar. Otherwise, you may be getting the type made with sugar beets - which come from seed having the GMO's and Round-Up-Ready. A lot of people think the corn syrup is actually okay because it's made with corn. What they don't realize is - the corn seed carries the GMO's and the Round-Up-Ready compounds. I'm just tickled as all get-out for you!!! Keep having all that fun!

  2. Good point, staying as far away from GMO products is a good idea...unfortunately they are in so many things, that it's hard to totally stay away.

  4. LOL oh not really Julie, I just enjoy some parts of keeping house...I'm not really a wonderful cook, when it comes to meals, I just like to bake and can foods and things like that. The cooking part is a work in progress. Besides then there is the cleaning...you have me beat there by a mile! :)
