Senility has arrived in force!

Out For A Swim

DH took a couple photos of Mabel in the creek yesterday and I liked them so well I thought I'd share one. She looks like she is enjoying the water...it was so warm out there that I bet it did feel good. :)

Now on to the Senility part of my post. LOL

Here I am just past my 40th birthday, an age that in my family doesn't mean much, most don't think of it as old...except for Kali of course, and she doesn't count cause she is still young and not as wise as us old fogeys. *giggle* (not that I'm saying I'm really wise. LOL) On the other hand, in DH's family, they always said once you reach 40 you are "over the hill" which to my way of thinking means you are old. Of course, in their eyes I got old a long time ago (just in a different way *snicker*). As usual, I didn't feel any different when my 40th birthday rolled around, than I did the day before when I was still 39, so I figured it was just another number like usual.

Then we had to go do our monthly shopping...and I found out I had aged more than I thought, in that 24 hour period. Enough that I can now say with certainty that I've gone over the edge into senility, granted I'd showed signs before...but now, there is no denying it! Next thing you know I'll be talking to the "little people". *giggle* (Sorry, for all of you who are wondering what that means...it's a family joke, so only a few will understand it.)

I could blame it on the store, as it's not the only time I've embarrassed myself there. For those of you who have been a reader for a while you may remember when I hurt some poor young mans feelings in the health food store, if you don't remember you can go remind yourself about what I'm talking about here. This time I managed to not hurt anyone's feelings, but unfortunately I proved to my DH, myself, and the checker (and who knows how many OTHER people) that I've totally gone senile!

I've been using my discover card to pay for our shopping and then paying it off right away a few days later because it gets us a few pennies back and since they changed it so you couldn't get any cash back, till it reached $50.00 it's been hard for us to get that last little bit that we had been needing for several years, so I can get an extra $50.00. Being me, and wanting my 50 bucks (It's been in the 40's forever it seems LOL), this is the only way I could think of to get it...since I won't charge things that I can't afford, unless it's an emergency. I don't like paying the credit card interest, so if I use it, it gets payed off that same month...it's handy to have the card sometimes...but isn't something I ever want to HAVE to use.

So anyway, I'd used the card a couple times already that day, and I guess it had already become automatic to grab it out of my wallet, as soon as I pick my wallet up. When we got to the checkout I put the basket of items I was getting on the counter, and moved down a little and then grabbed my wallet out of my purse. I was paying attention to DH not what I was doing...so therefor gave us all a huge laugh, and got to be totally embarrassed...although not for the first time.

I opened my wallet, and when I looked down I couldn't find my card. I was holding my wallet in my left hand and must have muttered something cause DH leaned over just as I said "great, now we have to go all the way back across town" cause I was thinking I had left it at the last store when I checked out. DH asked which one I was looking for, thinking it was my bank card, but he had just seen it in it's slot...so didn't think it could be. So I said (as I slid my wallet to my right hand and raised my left one) that I must have left my Discov.....oh ummm... There it was, between a couple fingers in my left hand, hiding behind my wallet. *giggle*

*sigh* Yep...Senility has struck....BIG time!

I mean really, how hard is it to find a card that you are hanging onto? Pretty hard when you are me I guess. *snicker* That's way worse than not being able to find your glasses when they are on top of your head (which I've never done btw...course probably only because I never put them there). ROFL

It took a moment for the checker to figure out what we were laughing at, (because even though I was TOTALLY embarrassed I was chuckling about it too...what else could I do, the floor sure wasn't going to open up and swallow me like I'm sure at that moment I would have liked it to) but once the checker figured out what happen she started laughing with us to. It was her first day, so I'm sure now she thinks total loonies go to that store, especially if she knows that young man from a few years ago. ROFL

Course DH had to joke and make it worse...that's just his way. I think the checker felt a little bad for me, but enjoyed the laugh. She did tell me as I walked out that she hoped my day got better. *giggle* I totally lost it when I got outside, and especially in the car, so I had giggle tears running down my face as we drove down the road heading to the next store. It was so bad I had to walk around that next store looking like I had cried...*sigh* I'll never live it down and I'm sure DH will be making sure I "have my card" from time to time just to make sure I don't forget my humiliation. It really was funny though...and I've laughed till I cried several times over it already.

I seriously can not help myself...I can just go so long before I like to totally embarrass myself...and DH. It's just who I am...a total idiot, put on this earth to make my DH laugh, and sometimes I'm darn good at my job!! *snicker* I make him chuckle quite often, but every so often, I really let loose and give him something to laugh at the rest of the day....and beyond. I've come to think of it as my job. :))

Or maybe it's just that store...they must have a "stupid spray", that they save just for my visit and go hog wild spraying it around when they see me get out of our car and head towards their door! *giggle*

Maybe I'll have to give my DH a list of what I need, and sit in the car from now on...or maybe I'll just suck it up and agree to keep my "job" and keep DH amused. I can handle being embarrassed, after all I've had 40 years to get used to being embarrassed a lot, so while yes I still get red, it doesn't bother me quite as much as it used to...I do love to laugh, so why not see the funny side of it and enjoy it too!

So laugh away...I may have gotten Senile, but that's when the fun REALLY starts isn't?!! :))

  1. Wait until you start putting the refrigerated stuff in the cabinets where the dry goods go - and vice versa. In other words - it only gets better. LOL

  2. Well...I shouldn't admit this, but since I already embarassed myself, I might as well. The other day I had something to put in the fridge, and went and opened the pantry door instead...I didn't step in, as I caught myself, but still...I'm almost to that point to! *giggle*

  5. I have found that no matter how senile I become, as long as I can still laugh at myself, life is good! ;-)

  6. I've done stuff like that... More than just once! *lol* ... Have I ever told you about the "hidden" trailer key? That we SEARCHED the house/trailer/Durango for, for over 30 minutes... Until I finally found it in the waistband of my pants that I was WEARING (no pockets). *lol*
