Oh Dear....ummm Deer
It's hunting season here, this photo was taken just before it started, when we saw some in our pasture. I love to see them around, but I'm not adverse to eating them too, and trust me, they can be SOOO good. Just don't think of them as the cute furry animals you see in this photo when you think about eating them, or you could be in trouble. This photo could be better, I maybe should have had my tripod, since I zoomed way out to get them, but I had to grab my camera really quick, and sure didn't have time to get my tripod out.
We have gotten 4 deer given to us so far by hunters, three on Sunday and one on Monday. I have to admit the 3 on Sunday was almost to much for one day, as we do all the skinning/cutting off the bone/packaging ourselves, but I just had to make myself think of all the good eating we would have, so I could continue on, once I got really tired. It was midnight before I turned out the kitchen light Sunday night, after getting all the meat off the bone and most of it into the freezer. We would just have a 5 gallon bucket full to grind in the morning, and another canner full to can. Even though it was a LONG day, it was a good day, and for the most part I enjoyed working with DH to assure we had meat for the winter.
The one we got on Monday was the biggest yet, and took quite a while to get finished up...although I think I was still kinda draggin from Sunday so was moving slower. However it was good to get it done and in our freezer. The last two days we have had a break from the deer, which was nice, especially since we needed to go pick up DH's camera, since it had to go get fixed, and I wanted him to have it for Thanksgiving...so I wasn't the only one able to take photos. Today I have to admit, I didn't do as much as I should...I finished the canning, and went outside for a little bit, as it was really nice out (in the 60's!!!), but other than that, didn't get to much productive done. I'm still tired, I guess I haven't caught up on my sleep yet, but find it hard to sleep late for the most part anymore...even if I'm up late.
We are still hoping to get a few more deer...our freezers aren't full yet, and I love the thought of saving some money on buying meat for the next year, so I'll take all I can find room for. I don't understand why people hunt, if they don't want the food, but at least some are nice enough to not waste it, and find someone who will take it. Even if we don't get more we have quite a bit, and will be eating it for several months. God has been so good to us!!
If you want to see some photos of our "deer days", you can visit DH's blog...be warned, its not pretty! If you are squeamish, don't go look...I didn't figure I would post those kind of photos here, but thought I'd put the link, in case you were interested.
Saturday, I had my camera out trying to get some cute photos of our doxie's, and they didn't really want to have their photos taken.
Rascal just looked pathetic, looking out from under the blanket, that DH had over him...course who knows, maybe it had something to do with the fact that it was pink?! *giggle* Maybe it hurt his manly pride?
Autumn just pretended interest in something outside the window, every time I pointed it at her, so I couldn't get a good one with her looking at me. I however did think these two photos of our doxie's were kinda cute, so thought I'd share, since I haven't managed any layouts this week at all. I'm thinking those will have to for sure wait till after Thanksgiving now.
Today when I went out to see the goats since it was so warm, they came wanting attention...or...well, probably food, but I didn't have any of that. LOL Our billy came up several times hoping, but today I was just handing out petting, instead of food, so finally most of them gave up, and went back out to the pasture. Rosy and Whinny were the only ones who followed me back into the barn to say bye. I thought they were kinda cute, looking at me through the gate, so snapped a photo.
They seem to be saying..."come baaaack". Course I'm sure it was just because they wanted me to cave, and find them something to eat...but I was strong, I fought the spell they were trying to put on me and kept on walking. *giggle*
Well I better get off here and get to bed, in case we get more deer tomorrow. I hope all of you are having a good week, as you can see ours has been good...as well as busy! :)
Autumn is looking out the window for hunters bringing us deer. Even though SHE doesn't like it, she knows it will get Rascal out of his "funk"!
