A long ramble

Look what my sweetie gave me on Saturday! We don't make a big deal about Valentines day, but more often than not my wonderful DH gets me something small to surprise me, or makes me something like he did this year. Maybe one of these year's I'll have to surprise him with something, I just don't do much for that day, as it's never been one of the days I thought much about, celebrating love is something I like to do more than just once a year. LOL

But anyway, I love hummingbirds, so this year he made me a box with a hummingbird inlaid on it. He still has to put flocking in the drawer, it wouldn't have been much of a surprise, had he got that done, since the flocking is in the utility room, just outside my office. And I'm in my office way to much, so would probably have seen him get it. The woods he used are all the natural color, and are from all over the world. It's amazing how many different colors of woods there are.

I haven't gotten much done the last couple of days, except for my class work, for my brushes class. But wow, I had so much fun with it!! LOL This week we had to make our own brushes and also go out and find some on the net. Well that's one thing I have done before, so the last part was really easy for me. I had a rocky start, on the first part of the assignment, but once I switched my brain on, and figured out what it was REALLY saying, I got it done. Below is what I turned in, and I will tell about the brushes, below the preview of them.

As you can see I"m in love with flowers! *giggle* The rose and swirl corner is one of my all time FAVORITE brushes, it's one of Blushbutter's brushes and can be purchased here. (Blushbutter has several other really beautiful brushes so don't forget to look at the others too, they aren't all that expensive either!!) The water stains down by the journaling mat are from Obsidian Dawn, the rest are ones I made.

I had the most fun making the brush that I used around the page. It uses the flower in the top left corner and colors it and scatters it as you brush. I'm going to have to do more of them when I get the time to cause they are so fun!! It's easy enough to turn off the coloring if you just want it to be one color.

I made the brush I used on the background to make it look like wrinkled paper, and the journaling mat is a brush I made and of course all the flowers. I know I should have made something besides flowers but they are my first love, so what can I say, I had to do them. I'm sure if I think of something else that would be cool to turn into a brush, I'll be doing so. LOL

The logo thing is a brush too, we had to do a brush with text on it, so I played around with that...not totally happy with it, to actually use it all the time in place of the one I have now, but maybe I'll be able to tweak it so I can. I like it, it just doesn't jump out at me, when you have a bunch of other things around like other elements and papers. So if I come up with an idea of how I can use it, and have it look good and be visible I may, otherwise I'll stick with what I have now. It really has to be larger than I would want it, when it's on a preview, to be able to read it, or see my logo on it, so that's probably the main problem. If I could figure out a new way to do my previews, that would allow that...maybe it would work. Not something I spend a lot of time thinking about, but maybe someday it will pop into my head...till then...I'll just go with the flow. LOL

On another note, I just have to tell you if you like beef (or deer, which is what I've been using as we don't usually buy to much steak cause it's expensive and we have all that deer in our freezer) and onions....you just HAVE to try this sandwich sometime!! It's yummy, and I've wanted to try it for a while now, but hadn't gotten around to it, so last week I finally did it with some of our deer, and put it on tortilla shells cause we didn't have the bun...then since it was really yummy that way we got the buns and I made it again today only used less Worcestershire sauce cause it was a little much on the last ones...although still good. (I used half of what it called for, and YES I even used the hot sauce, as some of you know I can't do hot, but I did a little bit of it and it wasn't hot, it just added a little flavor.) I think it would be really good in flatbread too, one of these days I'll get around to finding some, so I can try it! DH added shredded cheese to his...I did the first time, but this time on the bun I didn't. It's really, really good, and I'm sure that DH will be wanting me to make several times a month now, as long as our deer steak holds out! *giggle*

Well I expect I better get off here and see if DH is doing ok with supper, he was going to make pancakes tonight and forgot, so just came in asking what was for supper...I thought he was joking and looked at him for a little bit before I said anything. Then when I did the light came on and he remembered. I had to laugh, usually it's me doing things like that. We haven't had pancakes for several months so I guess him forgetting that he said he would make them tonight is understandable. *giggle* That's one meal he makes...usually I do make supper, but it's nice to not have to now and then. :)

I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Have a good week, and thanks so much for your comments! :)
