Deer, Dogs & Rambles.

Shadow

Our dogs are sure happy now, we got 4 deer given to us this weekend. Our two doxie's are fat and happy about the tidbits that they had thrown their way. Even Autumn got in on the act this year and had some...guess she got used to the taste of deer over the last year and started to like it. Last year she turned her nose up at it and Rascal got it all. LOL Rascal is funny to watch though, cause if a piece of fat is hanging over the side of the scrap bucket he will slowly edge up to the bucket, stretch his neck up slowly and pull on what is hanging on the outside of the bucket till he gets in off the bucket...all the while looking at one of us out of the corner of his eye to see if we are going to get after him. It's just funny how he does it, and I love watching him get his prize.

The LGD's of course got the bones which they loved. Course it didn't take them very long to get their fill, so now all they do is sniff them...and maybe chew on them for a very short time before they leave it alone again. They don't even guard them from the goats anymore...not that the goats want them, but at first they wouldn't let them come even see what they were...now they don't bother chasing them away. LOL

I went out to see the dogs and goats this afternoon, since the sun was out and it was pretty out, if a bit cold. While I was standing by the creek I got a photo of Shadow getting a drink...bet that water was cold. LOL

Yani

Yani sat on the bank in the sun watching...the goats...me...a truck go by on the road up the hill...and anything else that went on.

Goats & Dogs

The goats just stood around nibbling on things, watching the dogs and me and sending me subliminal messages to go tell DH to get them some corn stalks!

Showgirl

Showgirl really got into it, she stood on a fallen log to get a little more up in my face, and sent thought waves my way..."Corn Stalks....we want cornstalks....WE WANT CORNSTALKS NOW!!!". *giggle* With being busy yesterday they didn't get any...and they were late today cause we were gone this morning. So needless to say I finally took the hint, and came inside and rousted DH telling him they and Mabel were about to revolt, if he didn't get out and get them some NOW! LOL They were very happy that he complied.

I've been noticing that Shadow is growing up and starting to do some of the "barking". Now we just have to get him to bark at the right things, this afternoon he sat in the corner of the pasture, staring at our cows across the driveway and barking at them. LOL It used to be that Yani is the one who would bark, and Shadow would either herd the goats back...or follow her...now Shadow may be seen out front barking at whatever is bothering him, with Yani following him to see what it is. It's good to see the changes in him and see him taking the lead now and then. I think Yani has been a good teacher, so eventually he may get it right and not bark at something that is suppose to be here, and only bark (during the day anyway) at things we need to know about. :)

More on the deer front:

We actually got three of the 4 deer on Saturday, but two of them were late, so they got left till the morning to get worked on. So Sunday we get up, and get started...and in the middle of getting the first one of the day processed a call comes in about another (our 4th deer) which means we had three deer to try to get finished up on Sunday. That made for a LONG day and we finally couldn't do any more, left some for Monday morning and went to bed a little early...but after a long day of cutting up meat we couldn't stay up any longer.

Thankfully yesterday we didn't get another one...course it was raining and snowing (only got about an inch of snow here and it's gone already) so I doubt anyone wanted to be out hunting in it...so we were able to take a break in the afternoon. So far today we haven't gotten one either, but since we weren't home this morning I'm kinda glad about that too.

In other news:

We had to make a run to the nearest cell phone office because DH's cell has been shutting itself off, and it's not cause of the battery dieing, so we wanted to find out if they could fix it. Last week we both had had trouble with our phones not working...not sure what they did with that, but DH said it was going to just be a band aid fix on the programing most likely...so we would have to go to the office anyway. So once there they said we had two options, either turn his phone in on the insurance and pay the deductible for a new one(we have been paying for that on the phones, cause DH's phone is out with the hay and farm dirt so it doesn't seem to want to last as long as it should...and this way we don't have to pay for a whole new phone) or we could sign up for a new two year contract, since our last one was almost over...and that way we would get new phones to. We decided to just do the new contract, since we could get cheap phones (we don't need fancy ones since we don't text or use the net on the phone) and after we get our mail in rebate back on the phones we got we will have paid far less than that 50 bucks we would have had to pay for the deductible...and got two new phones out of the deal, so I'm happy about that. LOL

The new phones are just a basic flip phone...although they do have a camera, but that won't do us much good when we don't do the net, and they don't have a card in them...not sure how to get the photos OFF the camera without a card. LOL That's ok, we didn't use the last phone's camera either, so...we don't really care. I'm just glad they still had some more basic phones, since a lot of people seem to be wanting those pda full keyboard kinda phones...which isn't any use to us, if the net doesn't come free with our plan since I refuse to pay to have e-mail service on my phone. *giggle* We don't travel enough to bother with that...and while it would be "cool" it's not worth the extra money to me. Before we paid for that...we would pay for tv service, and that isn't going to happen any time soon...so doubt the phone internet will ever happen...unless it comes for free.

I know Kali, I can hear you now...we are just a couple of old fogies, stuck in the last century at least when it comes to cell phones...and satellite tv...and....ummm pretty much everything huh. *snicker*

Oh well, I love technology too, to a point...but not enough to pay big bucks for all the latest gadgets, I guess I never bought into the concept of "he who ends up with the most toys wins". LOL Or is it a "keep up with the Jone's" thing...not sure. Anyway neither is me...or DH thankfully!! Besides to keep our Hillbilly reputations, we can't get to many of them new fangled gadgets...THEY might start thinking we are coming up in the world...or NOT. *giggle*

Ok better get off here and stop rambling on about stupid stuff. LOL I guess I'm just so thrilled to have had a break from the deer that I couldn't shut up...yet couldn't think of anything interesting to write about. Sorry! I AM thrilled we got the 4 deer though, and am hoping for another one or two...three tops...but we will see what happens. There is still plenty of time. Going to have more good eatin' this winter...like we did last with what is in the freezer already! Yippee!!!!!!! :)

  1. Your new phones sound like ours... Though I do use the camera sometimes, if I happen to forget my real camera... It's like my back-up. *lol* ... I did have to buy a card for it, but it was only like $20 or less (I can't remember) for a full Gig.

  2. Our phones don't have a place for a card. :( Our last ones at least had that...but I didn't want to pay big bucks to get one that did.
