Organizing my Spices

My new spice racks

My spices have been bugging me for ages. I had them on a couple of those double layer turn tables, that fit on the shelf of your cupboards, and they worked for the first several years...but over the years, I've started using more and more spices, and it's been hard to figure out what I have on hand, and what I don't. I've ended up with two and three of the same spices, just because I couldn't find what I had, and wanted to make sure I had some if I was going to be needing it.

So the last few months, I finally got tired of the mess, and decided I needed to be on the lookout for a new system. I searched and searched online, and just couldn't find anything that was in my price range (as in CHEAP!!) that I thought would work for me.

My new spice racks

Finally the other day, while looking around, I stumbled across what I thought would be a perfect fit for me. These pull down spice racks, that are tiered, and move out of your cupboard and down with an easy tug on the front of them. I first saw them mentioned on a blog (sorry I can't remember which one) and she directed me to a couple of places I could order them online...although now I can't remember where they were. (sorry about that too. LOL) The price wasn't as nice as I'd have liked, but they weren't to bad, so I thought I'd have to try to get them in the next month or two.

I then decided to look around and see if I could find them cheaper, and came up with the ones at Walmart. (*sigh* yes I still shop at wally, sadly...maybe someday we can stop, cause I really don't like them, but they are cheaper on some things, so we still go there, even though I bitch about them not having a lot of what I want, when I AM there. LOL) They were cheaper, and we would be going there within a few days for our monthly shopping trip, so I decided I just had to order a couple of them to pick up while we were there. :)

My new spice racks

DH got them installed this weekend...and I loaded them up with my spices (most of them fit...still have a few larger containers in my pantry, but they aren't used as much, so they can stay there). I am so in LOVE with them!! They should really make it a lot easier to see what I have and don't have, as well as easier to get what I'm needing.

I realize, that having your spices over your stove, isn't really the BEST place for them, however in my kitchen it's the only place, except for maybe the pantry that I have any room for them, and I don't really want to spare the room in my pantry, so they are above my stove. These racks make it a lot easier to get the back ones..even though I'm tall and can reach more than some people can. :)

There is even enough room in between them to put two or three bottles of things I don't use as often. I put my big bottle of Bragg's Liquid amino's (I use it like soy sauce...since the usual soy sauce doesn't always agree with me) in the front middle, so it's really handy to get to.

So, that's one more of my "trouble spots" organized finally. Now if I could just find time to do some extra cleaning I'd be pretty happy...some places have really gotten BAD, this summer, and I just haven't had time to get to them yet. My kitchen floor is the WORST...gotta get that done SOON...yet again!!

Now though, I have to run and make cheese and soap, hope everyone had a great weekend! :-))

Edited to add link:  Our wally's has since stopped carring these racks...but we found them at Lowes!  Hope you can too!!

  1. Love them! I would love to keep the spices above the stove like that... Only, since I am only 5 feet tall, I can't reach the cupboard above the stove without a foot stool... And that's just a pain when you're trying to cook. *rofl*
